White rum from the Mascarene Archipelago, Labourdonnais distillery, Mauritius - Indian Ocean
«Gold Medal» at the Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition, held in Barcelona in February 2024.
«Gold Medal» at the International Wine & Spirits Awards held in Barcelona in July 2024
ORIGIN: White rum from the Mascarene Archipelago (Indian Ocean).
Made from pure fresh sugar cane juice.
Labourdonnais distillery, Mauritius - Indian Ocean.
TRACEABILITY: This cuvée comes from lot 36/21 selected by Chantal Comte in the cellars Saint Eloi 88. As soon as it arrived in the Chais Saint Éloi 88, this rum was put in terracotta amphorae, for a stabulation, maturation, combined with a micro-oxygenation, in order to obtain a slow and optimal reduction, because the amphora, thanks to its porosity, breathes like no other container!
Bottling in October 2023 (Lot R231003).
It was taken from this vintage 1950 bottles numbered from 0001 to 1950.
HISTORY: Once again, «L’Arbre du Voyageur» is aptly named, since Chantal Comte has chosen a new destination, Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, far from the West Indies, where we still find the tree that bears the name of the traveler’s tree, which is called in Mauritian Creole «Ravanela».
EYE: Transparency, light and beautiful viscosity.
NOSE: A nice attack of fresh sugar cane and tropicalfruits. Aromatic finish delicate, light, mineral and long.
MOUTH: Spices: pepper, chilli, mace. Citrus notes. The palate is bold, powerful, clearly mineral and spicy. The setting in amphorae has preserved the primary notes and reinforced the mineral frame already present. Beautiful overall suavity. The touch is reminiscent of amphora and its minerality on a texturing grain. A personality well marked by iodized aromas and power.
PROOF: 49 % alc./vol.
SERVICE TIP: Traditionally it is served at room temperature in a tulip-shaped stemmed glass of the Riedel or Spiegelau brand.
GOES WELL WITH: This rum will sublimate a tempura of vegetables or sushi or sashimi with salmon. For dessert, it is a delicious accompaniment to fruit salads, fruit pies, frozen nougat...
Enjoy this fine rum responsibly.
